Spin-off: Four Demonly Kings
Kaguya and his parents attend a high-society party. Since this is a backstory segment, Kaguya has short bobbed hair.
Hazama Kaguya was eighteen then, and Shigisawa Momoka was already a member of his household. On a certain night, one of Takeo's wealthy business partners held a lavish birthday party at Nayotake Grand Hotel; Takeo, his wife and their son were among the invited.
Tables were laden with food: elegantly layered skewers and sandwiches, seafood slices arranged in the shape of flowers, intricate pastries, ripe seasonal fruits. The spacious hall bustled with well-dressed guests, chatter mingled with string music. Among the partygoers, there stood a handsome kimono-clad young man delightedly conversing with a handful of other guests.
"Yes, we also learn how to open and close a screen door properly as well as how to position our feet as we walk and sit," Kaguya said, at which point a woman gasped.
"Oh dear, looks like tea ceremony is quite complicated," she said. "Do you think I can learn it?"
"Oh, there's no need to worry, I'm sure you can. After all, even I can do it," Kaguya replied, and the other guests laughed.
The joyful conversation ended when his mother called for him. A few footsteps away, Takeo had been looking on quite pleasedly, then was taken by surprise when the woman speaking with Kaguya earlier approached. "Your son is a delightful young man, isn't he?" she said.
Takeo chuckled.
"It's increasingly rare to see such charming youngsters these days. If only my own children could come halfway close to being like him… Does he perhaps have a girlfriend, by any chance?"
Takeo almost spat out his drink. After a hasty swallow, he replied with as much of his usual composure as he could retain, "He's in his third year; he's focusing on his studies. Besides, he's also devoted to his craft. He's going to have a lot on his schedule for several years at least."
Kaguya was seen visibly confused by the mysteriously knowing smile his father gave him afterwards.
