[INTERLUDE] 52: Tea Over Flowers

Spin-off: Four Demonly Kings
Part 8 (END) of: Colour Swap arc

After the Demonly Kings obtain their colour swap cure, it seems everything is well again.

Warning for mythological body horror.

After the second Cotton Rose Pill knocked Kaguya out cold for one whole day, the world's balance was restored: his hair and eyes were dark, Momoka had her wavy white bob and pink eyes, Urato's spiky hair was red and eyes green, Inasuke had brown shoulder-length tresses and blue eyes. Inasuke's minis also had their colourings returned: Booky had a pixellated black mess for hair and beady black dots for eyes, while Vill had the same luscious blond hair and purple eyes as the canon character it resembled.

Worries relieved and spirits high, the Demonly Kings were ready to don their maid outfits and return to their part-time work at Made in Meido-house for that sweet, sweet vacation money… before disaster struck.

Even on their first day, the four drew more customers than ever before, which would have been fine were the café not owned by a kuchisake-onna. These ghastly creatures with wide grins permanently slashed across their faces had a pesky habit of making absolutely sure they were the most beautiful women on earth, so when Meido-house's proprietress learned about the four's popularity, she was livid.

The Four Demonly Kings were thus still allowed to work, but not as waiters and not in maid outfits. They were relegated to standing by the front door, greeting patrons while wearing big, round daruma suits.

"How did this happen? What did we do wrong? Couldn't they have given us a cuter suit? This daruma suit with this huge mustache is so disgusting," Inasuke whined. On top of his suit, his minis had mustaches drawn on their faces in calligraphy ink.

"Ya think ya cute enough to wear a cuter suit?" Urato said. "Ya been using boku pronoun these past few days, but ya gunna need a lot more than that to be anywhere near cute."

"Urato-kun, stop that. Focus on work," Momoka said. Kaguya meanwhile smiled and pleasantly greeted another batch of customers like usual, only for his smile to immediately falter after the customers had entered the café.

"I say we quit after this shift," he said.

Throughout Kaguya's reign as president of Ichōnomiya High's tea ceremony club, he had instructed the club to host a crossdressing maid café for the school's cultural festival each year.

The idea proved popular – the classroom where the club held their attraction was always packed with girls and boys looking to be waited upon by charming young men in maid outfits. Most importantly however, they were also after the chance of basking in the glory of no one other than the club president himself. Being served by the handsome, charming Vermilion Bird would be an experience a thousand times sweeter than the best bowl of matcha-dusted anmitsu.

The festival this year would be Kaguya's last at the school, so Momoka naturally stopped by his club's attraction. It proved to be the best cultural festival she'd ever had – her master appeared before her more well-dressed than she expected. He donned a muted green kimono and a black obi embroidered with gold thread; completing his outfit was a frilled half apron and upon his sleek bob was a frilled headdress. Smiling at Momoka with those sensuous peach blossom-coloured lips, he said, "Mistress, you must be quite tired. What would you like me to fetch you?"

Momoka could burst from happiness. Having to keep their public interactions to an absolute minimum, this was the only time they could openly converse without fear of shattering their reputations. Underneath Kaguya's "maid" act, there was a genuine touch of sweetness in his eyes, his voice, and Momoka savoured every moment.
