[INTERLUDE] 7: The Unfair Folk

Spin-off: Fairy Godfathers
Interlude canon(s): Disney: Twisted-Wonderland
Part 4 of: Homeland Visit arc

After the fairies' first mission into FĂĄelĂĄn's home 'verse, the three go on a proper tour of Night Raven College.

Diasomnia Dorm

"Here we are, our last destination," FĂĄelĂĄn said after he, Helena and Sheen stepped out of the mirror portal. "Welcome to Diasomnia Dorm, honouring the spirit of nobility of the Fairy of Thorns, my second home for three years. Pretty cool, don't you think?"

After their first mission into this universe, the Fairy Godfathers took time to explore Night Raven College campus to their hearts' content. Shopping at Mister S's Mystery Shop (where Helena finally bought another batch of gold star fruits), snacks at Mostro Lounge, stopping by a few classrooms; it was as enjoyable a tour as it could be. Then, as the day's activities approached their end, there was only one thing left to do: visiting the dorms.

A chill raced up Helena's and Sheen's spines the moment they set foot in the last dorm. Diasomnia was like a different world from the rest of the school: not a patch of clear sky above, groves after groves of gnarled thorned vines below. The place clearly never saw sunlight; all was engulfed in a veil of dark mist, the dorm's stone towers stood high and ominous against a grey sky, nothing alleviated the hopeless bleakness but an eerie green glow from the dorm windows.

"You actually stayed here?" Sheen asked as he nursed his hand where an especially sharp thorn pricked him. "This place seems even scarier than Mordor."

Diasomnia Dorm - Lounge

"You know, I think this dorm is the coolest, aesthetics-wise," Helena said when the three had settled in a glossy leather sofa in the dorm's lounge, surrounded by generic Diaso students minding their own business. "It's spooky, eerie, chilling, scarier than Mordor, but that's exactly why it's beautiful. It's different from everything Pixie Hollow fairies are used to; it eschews conventional ideas about architectural beauty, but still manages to be aesthetically pleasing. That's what makes it the coolest."

"It is the coolest dorm, in every way possible," FĂĄelĂĄn said, not hiding the disdain in his voice. "It's where elites go, even in a school for elites. It's reserved for students with the strongest magic; it's an honour to be placed here, to wear that eyesore-inducing green coat that stands out from the rest."

Seeing FĂĄelĂĄn's sorrowed expression not at all matching with the words he said, Sheen asked, "Is anything the matter? Is there something you want to tell us?"

Brief silence, while generics continued to chatter all around and green flames danced on white candles. "You see, I'm a fairy," FĂĄelĂĄn then continued. "We're just the superior species here; every littlest thing about us is better. We live longer, our bodies are stronger, our magic is stronger. While no other kindreds are as blessed as we are, while they have to work harder to become powerful magicians, we're born with it all. We stick out like a sore thumb, we're naturally favoured for no reason, and I find that ridiculous."

He sighed, while his partners stared at him in dead silence.

"You know how I often say my species is like Tolkien elves. Well, there's a crucial difference," FĂĄelĂĄn said. "There are no 'Undying Lands' specifically tailored for us to move to. We're stuck in a world we don't belong, spending our existence unfairly above everyone else. To others, being placed in a dorm for elites is an honour, but for me, it's one more reminder that I'm not normal, and I find it a shame."

After another moment of silence, he said, "I think might just be a Mary Sue in my own continuum."
